MDA Seeks Candidates For New Water Quality Advisory Committee

MDA Seeks Candidates For New Water Quality Advisory Committee

Applications will be taken until April 16.

The Minnesota Department of Agricultural is looking for candidates to apply and serve on an advisory committee to help develop the Minnesota Agriculture Water Quality Certification Program.

MDA commissioner Dave Frederickson will appoint 15 members to the committee.

The committee will be convened and staffed by the MDA with membership from the following:

-2 farmers or ranchers

-2 representatives of general farm organizations

-3 representatives of commodity or livestock organizations

-1 representative of agriculture-related business

-1 representative of crop consultants or advisors

-2 representatives of environmental organizations

-2 representatives of conservation organizations

-2 representatives of local government units

In addition, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Minnesota Board of Soil and Water Resources, the state office of the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and University of Minnesota Extension will attend meetings and provide technical support. Other technical experts may also attend at Frederickson's request.

According to a March 5 press release from the Minnesota Secretary of State that lists vacancies on committees, ag water advisory committee members should have relevant experience and expertise in agriculture, conservation or water quality management.

Applications should include a brief cover letter, résumé, or other information that will outline or discuss the ways in which an applicant's background and qualifications will contribute to the success of the committee. The committee serves at the discretion of the commissioner who will establish the final composition of the committee.

The committee process will ensure that recommendations and concerns from all participants will be forwarded to the commissioner for consideration. Information provided to the committee or submitted to the commissioner by individual committee members will be available to the public.

The committee will serve only for the period of time necessary for the development and early implementation of the program and for not more than two years. Members will be compensated for mileage and are expected to actively participate in meetings. It is anticipated the Committee will meet approximately twice per month.

Applications are being accepted by the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State from now through April 16. The link is
