May-July Weather Outlook: Cooler, Wetter Than Normal
If the Climate Prediction Center's latest seasonal outlook holds true, the Dakotas could be in for the third consecutive cooler than normal growing season.

The NOAA Climate Prediction Center's latest seasonal outlook covering the period from May through July predicts below normal temperatures and above normal rainfall conditions across Dakotas and Minnesota.

Should this hold true, it would be the third consecutive cooler than normal growing season in region, says Mark Seeley, University of Minnesota climatologist.

Having gotten an early start on planting may turn out to be an even bigger deal than many expected, he says, because the extra days may be needed to offset slower than normal crop growth.
