The big gala event- the Hoosier Beef Congress, is only days away. After that, the Indiana Beef Cattle Association in conjunction with Purdue University Extension, will sponsor a series of educational events for cattlemen. Called area beef meetings, they will be spread around the state so as many cattlemen as possible can attend.
The meetings will run from mid-December though late January, notes Joe Moore, executive director of IBCA. Besides a chance to pick up information to help you do a better job with your cattle, the meetings are designed to feature food, social time and provide the latest news form IBCA, Moore says.
Topics and speakers may vary from location to location. Expect to hear about such things as selecting correct mineral supplements, the role they play in animal health, and information on other nutrition topics. With high feed prices, getting the most form the feed that you have is critical this year.
IBCA uses the meetings as a sounding board to see what issues are on producers minds, Moore explains. Area Directors for IBCA will be elected in a few instance.
Here is the tentative list of meeting places and dates. These are arranged by areas of the state, starting with area 1, not by meeting dates. Reservations are requested. Contact your county Extension educator to make sure you have reservations for the meeting you want to attend.
