The Minnesota Agricultural Water Resources Coalition is looking for more farmers interested in participating in the Discovery Farms Minnesota Program.
Discovery Farms Minnesota is an on-farm systems research/evaluation/demonstration program that collects information on real, operating farms in Minnesota. The program offers a collaborative effort among producers, agricultural organizations, university researchers and government agencies to develop an approach to production agriculture that results in environmentally compatible and economically sustainable farms.
There are currently six Discovery Farms Minnesota locations in Kandiyohi, Goodhue, Stearns, Chisago, and Blue Earth Counties. An additional two to three farms will be added this fall.
The focus of these additions will be in the Minnesota River and Cedar River Watersheds in the counties of Blue Earth, Brown, Cottonwood, Nicollet, Redwood, Renville, Sibley, Watonwan, Freeborn and Mower.
More farms will be selected in upcoming years in other areas of the state to better represent the diversity of agricultural enterprises and settings in Minnesota.
All interested farms and producers are encouraged to apply. Applications, which are due Friday, July 22, are available at http://www.mawrc.org/
