Weather has put a kink in everyone's plans. If you're still on the fence about whether to attend the Indiana Farm Management tour on June 16 and June 17, the best we can tell you is that Ken Scheeringa of the Indiana State Climate Office is predicting normal weather patterns ahead.
Meanwhile, the tour and banquet will go on as scheduled. The four new Master Farmer families and an honorary Master Farmer will be honored on Monday evening, June 16 at the Spencer County fairgrounds near Chrisney. It's only a few miles off the I-64 Dale exit, and a long rock's throw from Holiday World.
The evening program follows the last tour stop of the day at the Paul Giles farm in Spencer County. The program will feature a special meal catered by the Schnitzelbank Restaurant of Jasper, famous for German food, plus introduction of the honorees and presentation of their awards.
Following the presentation, Jim Mintert, head of Purdue University's Center for Commercial Agriculture, will moderate a panel discussion amongst the new Master Farmers. He will dig deeper into the qualities they share, and what makes each of their operations tick and prosper. Time permitting, questions from the audience will be accepted.
If you're making reservations for the free tour lunch on Wednesday, June 17, call 765-494-4310. If you want to purchase Master Farmer banquet tickets, call 765-494-8593. They are $25 each. Make your call today, or by Monday, June 9. There will be no tickets available at the door for the Master Farmer meal.
Both the tour and Master Farmer presentation promise to be first class events. Get ideas from other farmers that may help you at home. Make plans to attend now, and purchase your Master Farmer banquet tickets today. We'll be looking for you!
