Land Contractors Schedule Big Field Day Next Week

Land Contractors Schedule Big Field Day Next Week
Two-day demonstrations of various tile, conservation machines.

The biggest demonstration of tiling equipment and earthmoving equipment used to make soil conservation practices in at least two years in Indiana will take place next week. The best part if that it's open for anyone who would like to attend.

The Indiana Land Improvement Contractors are the primary sponsor for the Tile Drainage Field Day on July 29 and July 30 at the Southeast Purdue Ag Center near Butlerville in Jennings County. If you're thinking this sound familiar, the event was scheduled for last August at the same site. However, it was canceled after heavy rains in the area made it impossible for the equipment to operate.

The site is at officially 4425 E, CR 350N. The location is actually five miles north of SEPAC's buildings. Follow signs from buildings to the site where actual work will be underway, weather permitting.

On the first day, the schedule calls for tile machines to run from 9 a.m. to noon EDT and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Water control structures will also be installed during the same time frames. Some of the time will be spent moving dirt and preparing to install the water control structures.

Lunch is provided on the first day. Exhibitors will be on hand to talk to visitors about construction methods and their equipment. A discussion about tile drainage is scheduled for the entire crowd during the noon lunch on July 29.

The second day, July 30, features an abbreviated schedule. Tile machines and control structure installation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon, with the event closing at noon. Exhibitors will also be on hand on the second day.

All three types of tiling machines- plow machines, wheel machines and trenchers are expected to be n action. Various machines will be used to demonstrate backfilling after the tile is installed. Various types of tile will also be used. DPA and RTK equipment will be used, and someone will be on hand to answer questions about these units.

Visitors will also be able to check out wetlands and wildlife habitat on the site. You can register on the site both days, beginning at 8 a.m. EDT. For more information, contact Donna Clark of INLICA at 765-529-4615, cell 765-524-2948, or Don Biehle, SEPAC Superintendent, in the SEPAC office at 812-458-6977. Let's hope for good weather this time around.
