Nominate your candidates now for 2012, to give them time to apply.

Winners of the 2011 Mid-Atlantic Master Farmer award are amid final selection and will be announced in March's issue. But now's the time to nominate your deserving candidate for the 2012 award.

Yes, 2012 is a year away. But give your candidate plenty of time this winter to complete the application and gather seasonal photos to submit with it. The sooner they receive the application, the better.

Who's Master Farmer caliber?

This lifetime achievement honor is one of American agriculture's longest-standing and highest commendations. Going back to 1927, the award has recognized inspirational Mid-Atlantic farmer leaders – individuals, men and women who are superb farmers, savvy businesspersons, excellent stewards of their resources and exemplary community servant-leaders.

Individuals from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia may be nominated. The award is co-sponsored by American Agriculturist and Cooperative Extension in the above-mentioned states.

Nominating is easy. Just send their name, complete mailing address, phone number and your (the nominator's) name to: Master Farmer Program, 5227 Baltimore Pike, Littlestown, PA 17340. Or fax them to 717-359-0250. Or e-mail [email protected] .
