Kearney Restaurant Claims 'Best Burger' in Nebraska

Kearney Restaurant Claims 'Best Burger' in Nebraska

Order one up at The Cellar Bar & Grill next time you're there.

The Nebraska Beef Council has announced that The Cellar Bar & Grill in Kearney has won the "Nebraska's Best Burger" contest.

The contest, sponsored by the beef checkoff, ran from Feb. 15 through March 31, resulting in more than 3,100 online nominations. The Cellar Bar & Grill's "Western Burger" was one of the top five nominees and was awarded the best burger by a panel of judges who conducted an anonymous taste test. The Western Burger is a fresh, hand-made Certified Angus Beef ground chuck patty prepared on an open grill with Ameri-Swiss cheese, bacon, barbeque sauce and topped with a home-made onion ring.

"The Cellar Bar & Grill is certainly a worthy recipient of this award" says Adam Wegner, director of marketing for the Nebraska Beef Council. "All of the top nominated restaurants showed a passion for great tasting, high quality hamburgers."

Stacey Plautz, director of operations at the restaurant, says, "We are very honored to be selected as the winner in the Nebraska Beef Council's "Best Burger" contest. There's no doubt the Western Burger has been a customer favorite at The Cellar for many years."

The Cellar Bar & Grill will be awarded the first place plaque, a feature article on and a $2,000 beef promotion courtesy of the Nebraska Beef Council.

The other four finalists were: Stella's Bar & Grill in Bellevue, Dinker's Bar & Grill in Omaha, Chute #3 in Scottsbluff and Ole's Big Game Steakhouse & Lounge in Paxton.

Nominations were received for 364 restaurants statewide through the online voting system on the Nebraska Beef Council's website.

The Nebraska Beef Council is a non-profit organization served by a nine-member board of directors. The volunteers oversee Nebraska's beef checkoff and checkoff-funded programs. Programs for marketing and promotion are funded by the $1 beef checkoff.
