Group Limagrain, the biggest plant breeder and seed company in Europe, has joined with Kansas wheat breeder James Wilson, founder of Trio Research as part of its entrance into the U.S. cereal seeds market.

Limagrain Cereal Seeds is Group Limagrain's subsidiary for cereals breeding. The company will focus on wheat research and market its seeds under the LG brand.

Trio Research is a family-owned corporation in Valley Center, founded by Wilson in 1981. After more than 20 years of research and experience with wheat crossbreeding, including several years with Dekalb AgResearch, Wilson started Trio to service a biotech group seeking breeding partners who could provide outstanding wheat lines.

These lines took on added value when unique biotech traits were added. Re-formed as a private seed company in 1989, Trio Research released its first variety in 1993. Federal seed authorities approved Trio for the first synthetic wheat varieties in the United States.
