Kansas Fall Crops Are Looking Good

Crop ratings positive across the board.

More than half of the Kansas corn crop is rated good to excellent as the critical grain formation time for the crop draws to a close, according to the latest statistics from the Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service.

The corn crop is rated 42% good and 9% excellent. Only about 4% of this year's drop is very poor, with 9% rated poor and 36% fair.

Sorghum heading is almost complete, with 40% of the crop coloring, compared to 57% last year and 47% for the five-year average.

Sorghum is rated 11% excellent, 48% good, 29% fair , 9% poor and 3% very poor.

Soybeans are setting pods and most appear to have not been adversely affected by the extreme heat of early August. The bean crop is 19% excellent, 49% good, 27% fair, 4% poor and 1% very poor.

Cotton is in the bolls open stage and is rated 60% good to excellent, while sunflowers are blooming and the fourth cutting of alfalfa has been completed.
