Kansas Agricultural Producers Invited to Value-Added Workshop Series

Sessions to summarize assistance available to producers.

The Kansas Department of Commerce will co-host five workshops across the state to provide farmers, ranchers and other value-added agricultural producers an overview of available assistance. The workshops are open to the public and will summarize the financial and technical assistance available through the Kansas Department of Commerce and its partners, including Kansas universities, conservation offices, extensions and local communities. Attendees can expect to learn about grants, loans and educational opportunities, as well as value-added topics like niche marketing, specialty livestock production and agritourism. “It’s crucial that Kansas agriculture producers find new and innovative ways to process and market their products,” says Becki Rhoades, Agriculture Marketing Specialist for the Kansas Department of Commerce. “That’s what value-added agriculture is all about. These workshops will summarize the assistance that’s available — through Commerce and our partners — to farmers, ranchers and other value-added producers looking to expand their operations.” The schedule for the five workshops is as follows: August 28: Valley Falls, Kendall State Bank meeting room, 406 Broadway, 8 a.m. August 28: Seneca, Public Library meeting room, 606 Main, 1 p.m. August 29: Washington, First National Bank meeting room, 101 C St., 8 a.m. August 29: Concordia, Cloud County Community College Rm. 251, 1 p.m. August 30: Beloit, Beloit Municipal Building basement, 114 N. Hersey, 8 a.m. Co-sponsoring the workshops with the Department of Commerce are: Glacial Hills Resource Conservation & Development Region Inc., Kansas Crossroads Resource Conservation & Development Area Inc.; Meadowlark Extension District; River Valley Extension District and Post Rock Extension District Pie and coffee will be served.
