Iowan Elected To NCGA Governing Board

Bob Bowman, an eastern Iowa farmer and Iowa Corn Promotion Board director, is elected to National Corn Growers Association board. Iowan Darryl McAlexander is re-elected to USGC board.

Bob Bowman, a corn farmer from Clinton County and a director for the Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB), has been elected to the National Corn Growers Association's governing Corn Board.

Now in his second year on the ICPB board, Bowman serves as chair of the Iowa Corn Board's "Exports and Grain Trade" committee and has served on numerous NCGA committees. He currently serves on NCGA's Political Action Committee.  In the past, Bowman has served three terms as a director for the Iowa Corn Growers Association Board. "It is an honor to be elected to NCGA's Corn Board," says Bowman.  "I look forward to working with other corn grower leaders from around the country from diverse backgrounds as we work towards NCGA's mission be the leading voice for corn farmers in the U.S."

Also elected to the NCGA board were Chip Bowling of Maryland, Martin Barbre of Illinois, Lynn Chrisp of Nebraska and Keith Alverson of South Dakota.

Bowman joins two Iowans already serving on national corn board

Bowman joins two Iowans already serving on the Corn Board: former ICPB Chair Pam Johnson from Floyd and former ICPB Chair Daryl Haack from Primghar. Bowman farms a diversified grain operation with his son near DeWitt, Iowa.

Also at the mid-July meeting, NCGA corn-state delegates unanimously ratified Pam Johnson of Iowa to serve as the next first vice president for the organization, which means she is on track to become president of the National Corn Growers Association in October 2012.

Iowa McAlexander is re-elected to US Grains Council governing board

Darrel McAlexander, a corn farmer from Sydney in southwest Iowa, has been re-elected to the U.S. Grains Council's (USGC) board of directors as an at-large director. The announcement was made July 27, 2011.

McAlexander is a past chairman of the Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB) and has served on a variety of committees for Iowa Corn, including a term as chair of the Market Development Committee, and currently sits on the ICPB's Exports & the Grain Trade Committee. For many years, he has been the leader for the USGC's Biotechnology Programs advisory team and has also served on the USGC's Value Added advisory team.

"Darrel has given a lot of time and leadership as an advocate for agriculture at the local, state, national and international level," says Craig Floss, the ICPB's chief executive officer. "I have no doubt he will continue to do an outstanding job representing Iowa's corn growers in market development activities in this position with the U.S. Grains Council."

Darrel McAlexander joins another southwest Iowan already serving on the US Grains Council Board, Julius Schaaf, who is currently the treasurer on the U.S. Grains Council Executive Committee.

The Iowa Corn Promotion Board, works to develop and defend markets, fund research, and provide education about corn and corn products.  The Iowa Corn Growers Association is a membership organization lobbying on agricultural issues on behalf of its 6,500 farmer members. Both groups work on a joint mission to create opportunities for long-term Iowa corn grower profitability.
