Iowa Corn Sponsors 'Be True to Your Fuel' Video Contest

University of Iowa and Iowa State University students can show their spirit for Iowa's top crop and be a winner in a video contest Iowa corn promotion groups.

Hawkeye and Cyclone students can show spirit for Iowa-grown corn ethanol, E85 or flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs) and be a big winner in a video contest sponsored by the Iowa Corn Growers Association and Iowa Corn Promotion Board.

The "Be True to Your Fuel" video contest runs through November 5, as part of the 2010 "Game Day Give Away" promotions and activities that will take place throughout the year sponsored by Iowa Corn. The contest is open to University of Iowa or Iowa State University students. Videos should be 30 seconds in length and have a positive message for corn-ethanol, E85 or FFVs and their impact in the state of Iowa.

Voting period to select the winning video is November 12-26

"Iowa Corn is proud to partner with the University of Iowa and Iowa State University on the Game Day events that promote flexible fuel vehicles and corn fed ethanol," says Shannon Textor, market development director for Iowa Corn. "We want everyone in the state to share in our enthusiasm for fuel that comes directly from Iowa farmers and our neighborhood ethanol plants."

All submitted videos will be subject to final review by Iowa Corn before being posted on YouTube. From all entries submitted, three videos will be selected as finalists by a panel of judges. These three finalists will be notified by November 8, 2010 and the winning video will be determined by the number of times each of the finalist videos is voted for during the voting period, starting Nov. 12 and ending Nov. 26, 2010. All videos will be subject to final review by Iowa Corn.

Grand prize is $5,000—and a total of four prizes will be awarded

The winning video will be shown during the Iowa-Iowa State men's basketball game. Four prizes will be awarded including a grand prize of $5,000; second prize of $2,500 and third prize of $1,000. Videos cannot be longer than 30 seconds in length, 100 MB in size, and must be in .mov, .avi. or mpeg format.

The entire promotion includes radio, television, Internet, and on-site marketing. The campaign highlights the many uses for corn and its importance to Iowa -- as everyday is GameDay for Iowa's farmers. Videos can be submitted from September 25, 2010 thru November 5, 2010 by mail or in person to the Iowa Corn Offices at 5505 NW 88th Street, Johnston, IA 50131. Be sure to submit the official entry form and a copy of your student identification with your video.
