Gabe Brown, Bismarck, N.D., surprises has a breakeven price for corn of $1.18 per bushel.
His costs include land rent; herbicides, seed and other inputs; and field work figured at standard custom farming rates.
Brown uses holistic farming method involving no-till, cover crops and cattle. Basically, he’s producing high corn yields for his area without commercial fertilizer.
“We’re focusing on soil health,” Brown says.
