There are plenty of chances to pick up tips that might help your bottom line or help you do a better job of protecting the resources on your farm before its time to head to the field for spring work. Check these out and see if one or more of them would benefit your informational needs.
Conservation Farming System Field Day- This meeting is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, Feb 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. EST It will be held inside at Roger Wenning's farm near Greensburg, Ind. Wenning has cover crop plots on the farm, and has hosted other field days. This one, sponsored by the Decatur County Soil and Water Conservation District, is a broad spectrum meeting. Cover crop discussion will be included, but many other topics will be on the agenda.'
Barry Fisher of the Natural Resource Conservation Service is scheduled to speak about no-till. He's equipped with years of practical knowledge about what it takes to make no-till systems work. If you've got a question about a particular problem you're having in a no-till system, here's the man who can either answer your question, or steer you toward an answer.
No-Till Breakfast- Sponsored by the soil and water conservation districts of southeastern Indiana, this annual event is a happening. Now going for more than a decade, it features a unique program. Farmers provide the questions and the answers. A moderator will aid the discussion, and specialists will be on hand. But it's the ideas from farmers offered to answer questions from other farmers that make this meeting unique.

Pond Pro Workshop- If you have a pond, you know there are management issues to keep it useful either for livestock watering or for recreational purposes. Several SWCDs in southwestern Indiana are sponsoring a Pond Pro Workshop on Saturday, March 20, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It will be held at Camp Reveal on the Boonville-New Harmony road near Evansville.
Topics include pond liability issues, weed identification, fish stocking, dry hydrants and much more. There is a cost to attend. For information, contact Posey Co. SWCD. Other SWCDs sponsoring the event include Vanderburgh, Warrick and Gibson SWCDs.
