Last week the Indiana Soybean Alliance and the Indiana Corn Marketing Council hosted a holiday gathering at The Glass Barn on the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
The Glass Barn has a life beyond the 17 days of the Indiana State Fair as home to a variety of educational programs offered by the Indiana State Fair staff. The event was a great opportunity for The Indiana Soybean Alliance to showcase facilities and these exhibits.
Since August, hundreds of students have visited the Glass Barn as part of the "State's largest Classroom" program where State Fair staff incorporates this facility into its year-round educational efforts about food and farming. All of the programs focus on giving students a hands-on look at Indiana's agriculture industry. Board members and guests were encouraged to interact with the exhibits, try their hand at virtual farming, stand in front of the green screen for a picture with Santa hat-wearing Bennie the Bean and enjoy each other's company.
During the evening, several awards were presented. Jane Ade Stevens, CEO of Indiana Soybean Alliance, presented two national awards to outgoing ISA President Kevin Wilson. The Indiana State Fair won the Judges Choice Award and the Best of Division Award, both in the Agricultural Awards Program category at the International Association of Fairs and Expositions for the Glass Barn in 2013.
Incoming ISDA Director Ted McKinney was welcomed by both the ISA and ICMC and spoke to those in attendance. McKinney currently serves as Director, global affairs for Elanco Animal Health. His combination of business experience and passion for the agriculture industry will be an asset in this position. His appointment is effective Jan. 7, 2014.
Both the Indiana Soybean Alliance and the Indiana Corn Marketing Council feel that 2013 has been a very productive year and they are already looking forward to new and greater accomplishments in 2014.
