Genetically Modified Corn Seed Closer to Approval in Brazil

Brazil's biotechnology regulator approves Bayer to sell a genetically modified corn seed.

Brazil moved closer to clearing genetically modified corn seed as its biotechnology regulatory council voted 17 to 4 in favor of giving Bayer the first license to sell a genetically modified corn seed in the country.

The decision may help pave the way for other genetically modified seed developers, such as DuPont and Monsanto, to also get corn strain approval. Those two companies are still waiting for clearance from the council.

Brazil already allows the sale of some genetically altered soybeans.
