Four Communities Share Housing Rehab Grants

Clyde, Concordia, Glen Elder and Wilson get $1.5 million in federal funds to rehab some properties, demolish others.

The Kansas Department of Commerce announced today that four Kansas communities – Clyde, Concordia, Glen Elder and Wilson – will share more than $1.5 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) federal funds for housing rehabilitation.  These housing projects will rehabilitate approximately 55 properties and demolish 15 dilapidated units.

The following list identifies the community, CDBG funds awarded and local funds raised:

Clyde ($377,000 CDBG; $2,000 Local)

Clyde, located in Cloud County, has a population of 740.  This grant will rehabilitate 14 homes for low-to-moderate income families and demolish two unoccupied housing units.

Concordia ($341,800 CDBG; $2,000 Local)

Four Communities Share Housing Rehab Grants

Concordia, located in Cloud County, has a population of 5,146.  This grant will rehabilitate 12 homes and demolish four unoccupied unit within a 20 block target area. 

Glen Elder ($400,000 CDBG; $2,000 Local)

The grant funds will rehabilitate 15 homes and demolish two units in Glen Elder, located in Mitchell County.  The city has a population of 444.

Wilson ($400,000 CDBG; $2,000 Local)

Wilson, located in Ellsworth County, has a population of 737.  This grant will help rehabilitate 14 homes and demolish seven sites.

Housing rehabilitation grants are awarded through an annual competition. They support rehabilitation of owner and renter occupied residences with targeted areas to encourage neighborhood revitalization.

These rehabilitation funds are awarded to local units of government (cities and counties) and the maximum amount awarded is $400,000. Homeowner and rental properties must be brought up to code using these grants. Up to $20,000 per unit may be used for rehabilitation.
