Flex Fuel Vehicles Announced for 2008

Thirty-one models of motor vehicles will be able to utilize E85 in 2008

Five motor vehicle manufacturers are coming out with Flexible Fuel Vehicles in 2008. Ford, GM, Chrysler, Nissan and Mercedes Benz will make 31 models of vehicles with E85 compatible engines.

"We are pleased to see so many popular models offered with a flexible fuel engine in 2008,” says Phil Lampert, Executive Director of the National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition (NEVC).

Fourteen years ago less than 500 flexible fuel vehicles were manufactured. Lampert says he expects more than 750,000 flex fuel vehicles will be produced this year, and additional models of flexible fuel vehicles may be added later in the year.

"We encourage consumers to consider the purchase of a flexible fuel vehicle that is capable of operating on regular unleaded gasoline or up to 85% ethanol," Lampert says. "As the production of such vehicles continues to grow, the NEVC and our partners across the nation continue to dedicate our efforts to the growth of E85 fueling facilities."
