FFA Assistant Takes Position With National FFA

FFA Assistant Takes Position With National FFA
Indiana Department of Ag employee moves to northwest side of Indianapolis to work.

One and a half years ago, Coty Back was hired as assistant director of the Indiana FFA Association. It's a position within ISDA, since the Indiana FFA Association hired leadership is now under the jurisdiction of the state agency. Previously, it was in the Department of Education.

Short stay- Coty Back made the most of his few months as assistant director of Indiana FFA, and will now manage the National FFA officer team.

Back, who brought experience in FFA from his home state of Kentucky, was hired to assist Steve Hickey, the state director of the Indiana FFA Association. Hickey retired from ag teaching at Shenandoah High School in Henry County and was the first and so far the only director hired since the FFA was moved to ISDA. Former ISDA director Joe Kelsay was very instrumental in seeing that FFA joined ISDA. He felt it would add long-term stability to the program.

Back recently announced he is resigning his position to accept a position with the National FFA. The National FFA Center is located on the northwest side of Indianapolis, next to Dow AgroSciences. In his new position with National FFA, Beck will be performing several duties. One of them will be to assist and manage the National FFA officers. A new group of officers is elected every year. The new crew will be elected at the National FFA Convention in Louisville beginning at the end of this month. The National FFA Convention will be held at the Kentucky State Fair and Exposition Center for the next three years, then move back to Indianapolis in 2016.

Back was active in his short stay here in assisting with training and development, and in following up with contests and awards related to FFA members. He also served on the Indiana FFA Center Committee, and was instrumental in arranging for the first father-and-son faith-based camp which will be held at the FFA Center this month.

Word is that Back's vacant position will be filled. Formal announcement of the position has not yet been made.
