Farm Credit Moves Ahead with Office Project

Farm Credit Moves Ahead with Office Project
Groundbreaking for Greensburg office confirms commitment to community.

January 16 was an important day for Greensburg and Decatur County. In the midst of bank woes and uneasy economic times, Farm Credit Services of Mid-America affirmed their commitment to agriculture and rural America, especially southeastern Indiana, by breaking ground on a new office in Greensburg.

The new building will be on the same lot as the current office. The Farm Credit office in Greensburg is at 1512 West Main Street. So why is this announcement important?

Hollie Bunn, Farm Credit's regional vice president for southeast Indiana, said the new office will represent the latest in design and technology. It's being built to accommodate a growing staff as the cooperative anticipates more market share in the area. The location of the current office was idea, but the building was outdated, she relates.

"The current building didn't really reflect the image of have the office space or technology needs to keep pace with an ever-evolving agricultural market," Bunn says. The old building will be torn down. The new building, a 3,800 foot structure, should open by the middle of this year.

The Farm Credit cooperative operating in four states has 92 offices and more than 925 employees. It's backed by $18 billion in loan assets. The Greensburg office serves 750 customers with a $190 million portfolio in a six-county area. Counties served from the Greensburg office include Dearborn, Decatur, Franklin, Ohio, Ripley and Switzerland.

There are currently nine people on staff in the Greensburg office, led by Financial Services Officers Brett Anderson, John Evans and Tony Denger. The office also includes a crop insurance specialist, Cody Gault.

The Greensburg project is the 20th renovation or rebuild office project for the cooperative within the past five years. Four additional building projects, three of the four in Indiana, are scheduled for completion by the end of 2012.
