eXtension Launches Web Resource For Cooperatives

eXtension Launches Web Resource For Cooperatives

An educational partnership of universities—named eXtension and pronounced E-extension—is launching a new online website for cooperatives, which are businesses jointly owned by their members.

If you belong to a cooperative, do business at a co-op or are interested in forming a co-op, a new web-based resource is available. An educational effort by Iowa State and other universities, called eXtension ( and pronounced E-extension) is launching a new online community of practice for cooperatives, which are businesses jointly owned and democratically managed by their members.

The website for the eXtension Cooperatives Community of Practice, www.extension.org/cooperatives, is live. The CoP site officially launches Dec. 5.

ISU and other land-grant universities partner to offer information

Members of existing cooperatives as well as people interested in creating, managing or joining cooperatives will find decision tools, case studies and other research-based information on eXtension, says Madeline Schultz, an Iowa State University Extension specialist who is the Cooperatives CoP co-leader.

ISU and partnering land-grant universities are offering information on the cooperative business model as a way to grow and strengthen communities. The Cooperatives CoP is a virtual network of faculty, extension educators, industry experts and federal government representatives with expertise in cooperatives. They share knowledge through educational articles, online courses and electronic interactions.

The eXtension program is an educational partnership of 74 universities that provides online access to objective, research-based information and education. The eXtension Web resource, extension.org, offers land-grant university expertise and reliable answers about cooperatives as well as parenting, personal finance, energy, disaster issues, gardens, horse care and many more topics.
