Governor Mark Dayton recently signed Executive Order 11-32 which orders the Environmental Quality Board to conduct an assessment and deliver recommendations to improve Minnesota's complex environmental review process.
The order came with instructions from Dayton to look at more ways to speed up the environmental review process.
Dayton said he wants the review to examine the overlaying of environmental protection agencies and state and local organizations, and the oversight duplications that can be reduced or eliminated. He does not want strong environmental protection to suffer, however.
Minnesota Department of Agriculture commissioner Dave Frederickson will chair the EQB.
The board is required to submit recommendations to Dayton by November of next year.
