Entries for Farm Mom of the Year Still Open

Nominations are being accepted through May 8.

She cooks, washes your clothes, shops for groceries, and most likely helps out on the farm, driving equipment, feeding livestock and making sure food gets to the field. She may also serve on a school board, with Farm Bureau, a livestock organization among others. You know her best as "Mom". For all she does "Mom" deserves an honor. Consider nominating her for the 2011 America's Farmers Mom of the Year award. Nominations are being accepted through May 8. 

Monsanto has partnered with American Agri-Women to select five regional winners based on the way each contributes to her family, farm, community and the agricultural industry. These regional winners will be announced on May 16, when winners' profiles and nominations will be posted on Each will receive a $5,000 cash prize from Monsanto, and the farm mom receiving the most online votes by May 26 will receive an additional $2,500 and the title of 2011 America's Farmers Mom of the Year.

"From the nominations we have received so far, its evident there are a lot of special farm women throughout the country," says Chris Chavis, Monsanto spokeswoman for the America's Farmers Mom of the Year program. "Everyone out there knows an amazing farm mom. There is still time to nominate her for a chance to win the Farm Mom of the Year title and a $7,500 cash prize."

The reigning 2010 Farm Mom of the Year, Carol Cowan, of Watonga, Okla., says no matter where or what women farm, they play a vital role in helping feed and clothe a growing population. To be eligible, a mom must be at least 18 years of age and work on an active farm or livestock operation meeting the requirements set in the contest rules.
