Pick the best decision you've ever made in your career, write an essay and enter this year's Indiana Prairie Farmer and CountryMark's adult essay contest. The theme is "What is the single best decision you have ever made in farming?"
The contest is open to anyone at least 21 years old. The essay should be 250 to 300 words, and must be your own work. Entries should be typed and include a cover letter specifying your name, address, email address, home and cell numbers. Please make sure to note it's an adult contest entry. Winners will be notified by phone.
Winners will be rewarded with CountryMark's Super Dieselex-4 fuel. Personal delivery of 500 gallons goes to the winner. Second place will receive 250 gallons, and third place will win 100 gallons of fuel – definitely worth the initial stress over a decision.
A panel of judges knowledgeable about agriculture will review the entries and pick the winners. Results will be announced in early summer. Farm Progress reserves the right to publish any essays deemed appropriate without compensation. Decision of the judges is final.
Send entries with specific contact information noted above by April 15 to: Susan Hayhurst, 14477 S. Carlisle Street, Terre Haute, IN 47802.
There is also extra incentive to write an essay and enter this year's contest. Just by entering the contest, you can help one of your favorite youth groups. CountryMark will donate to either the Indiana FFA Foundation or the Indiana 4-H Foundation $20 for each essay submitted up to 50 essays total. Simply note on your entry form if you are a 4-H or FFA supporter, and CountryMark will make a donation on your behalf.
Besides the decision you write your essay about, entering this contest just might be the next best decisions you've made in farming!
