Emergency Food Drive Underway

Missouri Director of Agriculture encourages donations on May 25 to aid disaster recovery.

Director of Agriculture Jon Hagler is calling upon Missourians and the agriculture community to join in helping those devastated by the Joplin tornado and flooding in southeast Missouri by donating canned goods, non-perishable items and funds for local food banks. On Wed., May 25, the Department of Agriculture is holding a food drive for the Food Bank of Central Missouri to help them as they aid Missourians throughout the state recover from recent devastating disasters.

Donations will be accepted through Wednesday morning at the Missouri Department of Agriculture. All donated products and proceeds will then be donated directly to Peggy Kirkpatrick, executive director of the Food Bank of Central Missouri, to help them aid the thousands of Missouri families as they begin to try to rebuild their lives in southwest and southeast Missouri.

In addition, the Department of Agriculture will be making the commitment to donate produce from the Department's Growing Together Garden to the local food bank for their continued efforts to provide to those in need and encourages all Missourians to consider planting a garden and donating part of their produce as way of giving back.
