John Deere and 10 of its Iowa dealers is the main sponsor of a new NASCAR/Nationwide Series car race to run May 22 at the Iowa Speedway at Newton in central Iowa. The race is called the "Iowa John Deere Dealers 250 Presented by Pioneer" and is part of the NASCAR Nationwide Series. It is to begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2011.
John Deere, in partnership with 10 Iowa John Deere dealers, is the title sponsor, and Pioneer is the presenting sponsor of this race. The Deere/Pioneer sponsorship joins a lengthening list of agribusiness sponsors of Iowa sporting events, beginning with the Iowa Corn 250 Indy Car race at Newton on June 25, sponsored by the Iowa Corn Growers Association.
The 25th anniversary Summer Iowa Games to be held in Ames and Des Moines this summer will have the Iowa Food & Family Project as a presenting sponsor. The Food & Family Project is driven by the Iowa Soybean Association and includes other commodity groups, food producers and restaurants. It was also recently announced that the Iowa Corn Growers Association has taken over sponsorship of the Cy-Hawk Trophy series between Iowa State University and the University of Iowa athletic teams.
John Deere and dealers sponsor NASCAR race at Iowa Speedway
Making the NASCAR race announcement a couple weeks ago, Deere officials said their company's partnership with the Iowa Speedway at Newton for this race is good for Deere, for agriculture and for race fans. In partnership with the 10 Iowa John Deere dealers, Deere will bring more than 3,000 customers to this premier event.
Deere division sales manager Jeff Oldham says the partnership with Iowa Speedway provides a great opportunity to connect with customers. "Iowa Speedway can seat more than 55,000 fans, and the Nationwide Series Races at this track consistently sell out," he notes. "Because many of our Deere customers are avid race fans, we are excited about sponsoring with our dealers, and look forward to an exciting race on the fastest track (under 1 mile) in the nation."
"Many of our fans have rural roots, so we're pleased to have one of the biggest names in the agricultural industry, John Deere, as a 2011 race sponsor and official partner of Iowa Speedway," says Chuck Spicer, vice-president of sales and marketing for the speedway.
10 lucky customers will win a one-year lease on a Deere Gator
Deere and participating Iowa dealers will give away a one-year lease on an 825i Gator XUV to 10 lucky customers who sign up at one of many participating dealer locations in Iowa. "John Deere loaned us a fleet of Gators to facilitate our operations staff and help transport fans needing extra assistance on race day," says Spicer. "So, everyone will have an opportunity to see the Gators in-action at the track, and the winners will be announced during the race on May 22."
"In addition to the overall sponsorship of the race, we've invited the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Iowa to choose a wish child recipient to open the race as honorary Grand Marshall. We want to help raise even more awareness of the Foundation's efforts to help kids with life-threatening medical conditions," says Oldham. "With all the activities going on, we couldn't do this without the support of our 10 participating John Deere dealers and we appreciate their time and resources in helping to bring this popular event to Iowa."

Pioneer Hi-Bred is also helping sponsor May 22 NASCAR race
Pioneer Hi-Bred is partnering with Deere in sponsoring the May 22 NASCAR Nationwide Series race which will be fueled by E15, a 15% ethanol blend. For the 2011 racing season, NASCAR's three national touring series will run on fuel blended with 15% American ethanol made from corn grown in the United States.
"Powering race cars at high speeds is the ultimate in ethanol performance," says Todd Frazier, Pioneer business director for Iowa and Missouri. "Just as science and innovation are constantly improving the performance of the cars on the track, they are helping to develop alternative fuels that Iowa agriculture can deliver."
In addition, Pioneer is again partnering with the Iowa Corn Growers Association and Iowa Corn Promotion Board to sponsor the 5th annual Iowa Corn Indy 250 Race at the Iowa Speedway on June 25, 2011. The Indy race cars for that race also will be fueled with corn ethanol.

"Both of these races are great events for the state of Iowa," says Frazier. "They help showcase how Iowa agriculture is stepping up to the challenge to meet the food and fuel needs of the world.""Pioneer's partnership is a natural fit, given a large portion of our fan base is tied to agriculture, and we're very grateful to Pioneer on board," says Spicer, the Iowa Speedway vice president. "Pioneer's joint sponsorships with John Deere and Iowa Corn enable us to create an exciting experience for race fans that's fueled, literally, by some of the biggest names in Iowa's agricultural industry."
