Bob Dickey, crop and livestock producer from Laurel, is in line to become president of the National Corn Growers Association.

Dickey was recently elected first vice president of NCGA. The leadership position, which starts in October, is the first of a three-year commitment for Dickey, as he will become president of NCGA in October 2008 and chairman of NCGA's Corn Board in October 2009.

"It is quite an honor to serve on NCGA's Corn Board, and it is very humbling to have fellow members elect me to an officer position," Dickey says. Dickey is at least the fourth corn producer from Nebraska to serve in this role for NCGA.

In addition to his involvement in NCGA, Dickey has been a member of the Nebraska Corn Board for more than 15 years and has served that board as secretary, treasurer, vice chairman and chairman. He was just reappointed to a three-year term.

Dickey has also been involved in the U.S. Grains Council, which works to promote U.S. grain and grain products in the international marketplace. For the Council, Dickey served in several different committees and moved through officer positions, including chairman.

Dickey runs a diversified operation, where he produces soybeans, hogs and cattle, in addition to corn. This has led him to be involved with Nebraska Cattlemen, Nebraska Pork Producers Association and Nebraska Farm Bureau Federation. He's also a member of the American Legion.

"Serving on the NCGA board will allow me to be involved in issues involving the corn industry around the country and bring that experience and information back to Nebraska to share," Dickey says. "There are a lot of opportunities for corn producers in Nebraska and across the country, and I'm excited to continue to serve the Nebraska Corn Board and be involved on a national level, too."
