Girsh Russell, Dane County, exhibited the overall champion in this year's Wisconsin State Fair Performance Beef Contest. The Performance Beef Division is a comprehensive contest incorporating rate of gain, live show and carcass evaluation. The overall top 10 winners, as well as the top two exhibitors in the individual components of the contest, receive prize monies and awards from the Wisconsin Cattlemen's Association and Wisconsin State Fair.

Girsh's crossbred steer was 3rd in carcass, reserve champion in the live show and 3rd in rate of gain to finish with an overall score of 74.9 points. The overall reserve champion performance steer exhibited by Patrick Hilleman, Richland County, was an Angus steer which placed 1st in carcass, 8th in rate of gain (2.57), and 3rd in its class in the live show resulting in an overall score of 72.8 points. Girish and Patrick received a banner and $300 and $250 respectively.
