CSP Payments Almost Ready to Send

More than $257 million in Conservation Security Program payments are being made ready to send to producers and landowners.

USDA is making ready to pay more than $257 million to almost 20,000 producers and landowners for Conservation Security Program contracts.

"USDA is pleased to recognize good stewardship practices and offer incentives to increase conserving uses through the Conservation Security Program, and we have proposed to do more, if Congress agrees," says acting Agriculture Secretary Chuck Conner. "Our farm bill proposal has offered Congress a means to expand CSP enrollment to more than 96 million acres over the next ten years, rather than its current limit to selected watersheds."

Contracts in all 280 CSP watersheds are being covered by this payment, with a choice of receiving Fiscal Year 2008 payments in 2007 or 2008. CSP contract holders need to their local National Resources Conservation Service office so their payments can be processed.
