Combo Crop Insurance Workshops Scheduled

Combo Crop Insurance Workshops Scheduled

Iowa State University Extension will hold meetings at five locations in Iowa to explain the new combination crop insurance policy that replaces previous policies.

The deadline to purchase crop insurance for 2011 is March 15. And there are a number of changes to consider this year. The main one is that the new Common Crop Insurance Policy, often called Combo, simplifies the number of crop insurance choices offered by the private insurance companies.

Beginning in 2011, the old multiple peril crop insurance policies and previous revenue insurance policies have been replaced by a single policy with several options. Iowa State University Extension will hold workshops to explain the new combination policy. At upcoming workshops, William Edwards, ISU Extension economist, and ISU farm management field specialists, will discuss the new "Combo" crop insurance policy and options farmers have to choose from.

Other workshop topics will include the proposed good performance premium refund, choosing between basic and enterprise units, and grain marketing considerations. Computer applications will be available to help participants analyze their own farming operations.

Workshops are scheduled at five locations
