Coalition To Support Iowa Farmers Offers Internship

Coalition To Support Iowa Farmers Offers Internship

The Coalition to Support Iowa Farmers has established a summer internship to help provide support services for Iowa's livestock and poultry farmers, helping them comply with environmental regulations and other rules. CSIF has hired Caleb Lundberg for this summer's position.

The Coalition to Support Iowa's Farmers is proud to announce that Caleb Lundberg will be the summer intern working at CSIF this year. Lundberg's position will further enhance CSIF's service to Iowa's livestock and poultry farmers, says Brian Waddingham, executive director of the organization.

Lundberg will assist PFI in conducting farmer education and outreach activities. This includes coordinating farm open houses and ribbon cuttings as well as helping promote and conduct farm tours and other special events.

Lundberg is a senior at Iowa State University where he is majoring in Agriculture Education. He grew up on a family farm near the northeast Iowa town of Floyd and was very active in the Charles City FFA program. "I'm extremely excited to be part of the Coalition team and to continue its service to farmers and the advocacy it provides to families involved in raising livestock," Lundberg says.

Survey shows future strengthened by FFA and agricultural youth

A survey this spring sponsored by CSIF of over 200 Iowa FFA members finds that an increasing majority of them want to farm and live in Iowa upon completing their education. They also have an extremely positive outlook about agriculture and the opportunities agriculture can provide to those people who are willing to work hard to accomplish their goals.

The findings, garnered from a survey conducted by the Coalition to Support Iowa's Farmers at the recent 2011 Iowa FFA Conference held in Des Moines on April 14-15, highlights the exceptional role agriculture can play in helping Iowa retain some of its best and brightest young people while reinforcing the importance of high school agricultural education programs.
