Clark County, S.D., land auction
Three quarters of land in Clark County, S.D., sold in three tracts for an average of $5,684 per acre at an auction in November. Prices ranged from $7,125 to a low of $4,950 per acre. The auction drew a record crowd of prospective buyers, friends, neighbors and onlookers, says Marlin Fjelland, one of the auctioneers. Two of the quarters were purchased by local farmers. 2 farms sell for $5,800
Two different farms sold for $5,800 per acre each at auctions last fall. One was in Lake County, S.D. It had about 140 acres of cropland, and some acres that could be converted to cropland. The soils on the farm had an overall soil rating of 0.725 and Surety Agri-Data Inc. productivity index of 74.7. An 80-acre tract in Moody County, S.D., sold for $5,800 per acre. It consisted of 51 acres of tillable land. The balance was in pasture and a stock dam. The pasture was in a Conservation Reserve Program contract that expired in September. About 360 acres of cropland and pasture in Lake County, S.D., sold for $5,100 per acre. The property consisted of about 244 acres of cropland, 63 acres of CRP and 50 acres of pasture. About 160 acres in Walsh County, N.D., sold in September for $3,812 per acre. Land in Aurora County, S.D.
About 630 acres in Aurora County, S.D., sold in three tracts at an auction in October for $2,100, $$2,800 and $2,950 per acre respectively. The $2,100-per-acre tract consisted of mostly pasture. The $2,950 property was mostly cropland. Land in Pierce County, N.D., sold for $550 to $950 per acre at an auction. The 704-acre farm was sold in three parcels that included a mix of cropland, hay land and wildlife habitat. About 140 acres in Minnehaha County, S.D., sold for $7,100 per acre at an auction in September. Located near Brandon and Garretson, the farm had three housing eligibilities with it.
