Child Feeding Program Expanded

Extra nutrition assistance will be provided.

USDA has announced the nationwide expansion of at-risk afterschool meals to promote improvements in health and nutrition in Child Care settings. Under the expansion, eligible children will receive extra nutrition assistance through the Child and Adult Care Food Program as eligibility for afterschool meal reimbursement expands to all 50 states.

In making the announcement, Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack said, "Our commitment to increasing access to nutritious food for every American is stronger than ever. We will continue to work with states to ensure children have access to critical nutrition programs."

CACFP plays a vital role in improving the quality of child care and in making care more affordable to low-income families. Through the program, more than 3.2 million infants and children receive nutritious meals and snacks each day.
