Check Out If University Of Wisconsin-Madison Is The Right School For You

High schoolers can 'test-drive' the UW-Madison College of Ag and Life Sciences at Visit Days beginnings Oct. 19.

Choosing a college is a big commitment, so it's wise to take a test drive before deciding. The UW-Madison College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) is holding a series of visit days over the next several months to give prospective students a good look under the hood and a feel for the wheel.

"This isn't your ordinary campus visit," says Jessie Potterton, director of prospective student services. "With our visit days, students get to meet with some of the professors and advisors they'll be learning from if they go to college here."

This face time with advisors and professors will give prospective students a preview of the kind of personal attention that CALS is know for, Potterton adds. "The college only looks big," Potterton says.

"Once you're here and get to meet people and see the places where you go to class and labs and all there is to do, you quickly get a sense of home."

Visit day groups are kept small to ensure everyone attending has a chance to experience everything the event has to offer. Potterton encourages prospective students to bring along their parents or a friend. The visit will cover all of the information needed to enroll including admission processes and financial aid options. But register early, because the visits are popular and slots fill quickly, she advises.

Visit days are scheduled for:

•Oct. 19, 2012
•Dec. 7, 2012
•Jan. 28, 2013
•April 5, 2013

Each session begins at noon in the new DeJope Residence Hall and concludes at 4:30 p.m. with a tour of the entire UW-Madison campus.
