Certified Crop Advisors Name Outstanding Member For The Year
Southern Indiana man recognized for special achievement.

The Indiana Certified Crop Advisors organization held a business meeting when some 700 members and guests gathered in Indianapolis recently. It's one of the most successful conferences yet, organizers say.  Strength of the program and the fact that attendees get credit toward maintaining their certification ere credited with the large turnout.

Gary Finn of Dow AgroSciences is president of the Indiana CCA this year. At the meeting he presented the group's most prestigious award, the Outstanding CCA of the Year award, to Brian Kerr. Kerr hails from Evansville, and is employed by Daylight Farm Supply. He was accompanied by his wife, Kristi.

The award is a project sponsored by Indiana Farm Bureau, Inc. Kerr was nominated by his local county Farm Bureau, represented at the event by Gary Michel, there to support Kerr on behalf of the Warrick County Farm Bureau.

Since Indiana Farm Bureau sponsors the award, the actual presentation was made by Bob Kraft, pinch hitting for Bob Cherry, who normally works with the CCA awards program. Both Cherry and Kraft are part of Indiana Farm Bureau's policy department. Kraft is a lobbyist for Indiana Farm Bureau who plays a role observing actions of the Indiana General Assembly. Cherry is an elected representative in the House within the General Assembly. He represents a portion of Hancock County including Greenfield.

Besides presenting the award to Kerr, Finn also noted that certificates would be presented to CCAs who participate in the Crops Corner writing program. Crops Corner is an Indiana Prairie Farmer exclusive which appears in the magazine each month. The panel of three writers rotates four times during the year. Betsy Bower, a CCA with Ceres Solutions, Terre Haute, coordinates the effort form the CCA side.

The same panelists also provide answers for the Hoosier Bug Beat column. Their information also appears in other stories within the magazine and on the Web, especially in stories related to pest scouting and insect and disease control. Look for the CCA designation mentioned with the name of a source in articles on these subjects.
