CBOT Breaks Monthly Volume Records

Led by the ag complec, November trading broke CBOT monthly records for total volume and average daily volume.

The Chicago Board of Trade announced Friday that November volume reached record-highs 83,596,033 total contracts and 3,980,763 contracts trading each day. The numbers were up 38% compared to the same figures for November 2005.

The agricultural complex led the surge with an 88% ADV boost compared to November 2005. Total agricultural volume reached 14,602,741 contracts, futures volume was 12,121,361 contracts, and options volume was 2,481,380 contracts - all monthly records.

Electronic trading also boosted volume, with the total exchange electronic ADV up 50% from last November. Electronic ADV for the ag complex went up 29% from last year.

Within the ag complex, corn led the way with a 142% ADV increase from November 2005  at 7,879,086 contracts, followed by increases in the wheat (45%), soybean (51%), oats (62%), and rough rice (44%) complexes.
