The annual Indiana Beef Cattle Association meeting and day-long convention is all about showcasing the Indiana beef industry. Joe Moore, executive director of IBCA, says activities and talks planned for the event will show the potential for expanding Indiana’s presence in the beef industry to cattlemen. It will also highlight IBCA’s efforts to promote the beef industry across the state of Indiana to everyone, including consumers who purchase and eat beef.
The event is slated for February 6 in Indianapolis., It will be held at the Caribbean Cove Hotel and Conference Center. The day begins with the annual business meeting of IBCA in the morning.
Activities rev up with afternoon sessions, Moore says. The theme will be value-added programs for beef producers, he adds.
Mark McCully, vice president of production for Certified Angus Beef will discuss the growth of value-added beef programs. Certified Angus Beef is the most recognized value-added brand for Angus cattle. However, there are dozens of others claiming to supply or sell Angus beef. Sometimes the fine print indicates that you’re getting beef from a black steer or heifer, not necessarily from an Angus steer or heifer. Expect McCully to spend time explaining the difference and demonstrating why stores can ask and get a premium for selling Certified Angus Beef.
Leann Saunders will speak on the financial impact for producers of source-verification on value-added livestock. She is president and COO of Where Food Comes From-Source Verified.
Top cattlemen and women will be honored at the evening banquet associated with this event. The event wraps up with a Las Vegas style Casino Night, with great prizes waiting for lucky winners, Moore says. The facility’s water park will be open for children during the event.
