The Hoosier Beef Congress is early this year because of the way the calendar falls. It's still the first weekend after Thanksgiving weekend, and this year that means it's Friday, Nov. 30 through Sunday, Dec. 2. Those dates are fast approaching and so are several key dates for being involved in this year's event.
Junior Show registration deadline is Nov. 1. Approximately 1,000 junior exhibitors are expected to take part, exhibiting about 1,500 head. This figure does not include sale cattle, which will be run through the ring and find new homes in several sales during the weekend.
Just how popular is the Beef Congress? Last year the first 20 stall spaces were auctioned off online. The auction was so successful that this year the first 30 spaces will be auctioned off online. IBCA will use the Breedersworld.com online auction site to auction off the spaces. No information was given about what will be done with the money raised from auctioning off these choice spots. Last year the unofficial tally was about $8,000 raised from folks so excited about Beef Congress that they wanted prime spots for their animals.
The renovation of the Coliseum will be under way by the time Beef Congress arrives. It will affect some aspects of the Congress, even though cattle were shown in the West Pavilion, not the Coliseum. The effect involves what's happening with some buildings and areas around the Coliseum during construction. Pay attention to details and follow instructions to know which areas are off limits this year during the show.
