Calls for Ag to Start Alliance Building

Calls for Ag to Start Alliance Building
Animal agriculture needs to fight back against radical animal rights groups.

Director of the Center for Consumer Freedom David Martosko says most people mistakenly believe the money they donate to the Humane Society of the United States will go to local animal shelters. But in reality HSUS is promoting conflict between urban and rural cultures with the end goal being to eliminate meat from the diet, something he is trying to bring light to with his HumaneWatch Web site. Martosko spoke at the recent American Agri-Women Symposium held in Washington, D.C.

Martosko and Steve Kopperud of Policy Directions agree that the animal rights organizations are coalition building and animal agriculture should do the same. Kopperud suggested that agriculture should develop alliances that perhaps were not thought of before such as unions, churches, educators and less radical humane groups.

AAW president Chris Wilson says the D.C. symposium brought the fact that animal agriculture is under attack by groups who have an agenda to eliminate the use of animal products for food into focus.
