Bringing Transparency To Food Production

U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance set to tackle transparency during June 19 Food Dialogues event

The U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance Food Dialogues event returns to Chicago June 19, this time tackling the topic of transparency in food production and inviting top speakers and researchers to weigh in.

The event, "Transparency and Food: Our responsibility to make information available to today's consumer" serves as the second panel in a two-part series taking place in Chicago. The discussion will be held at the Kendall College School of Culinary Arts.

U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance set to tackle transparency during June 19 Food Dialogues event

Panelists for the line-up include representatives from government, academia, publishing, communications, farming and industry. Moderating the discussion is Ellie Krieger, best known as the host of the Food Network program "Healthy Appetite."

Panelists include: Kathleen Merrigan, former Deputy Secretary of Agriculture; Gene Kahn, former president and CEO of Cascadian Farms; Jayson Lusk, University of Oklahoma agriculture economist and author, "The Food Police"; Lynn Martz, rancher, Martz Family Farm, Maple Park, Ill.; Bo Stone, farmer, P & S Farms, Rowland, N.C.; Mary Pat Raimondi, American Academy of Dietetics and Nutrition Vice President, Strategic Policy and Partnerships; Brad Nelson, Marriott International Corporate Chef and Vice President of Culinary; and Anupy Singla, journalist, author and blogger, www.indianasappliepie.com.

The discussion will take place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. CDT and will be streamed live online.

Since its launch in 2011, the U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance has hosted five major events, including 13 panels across the country. Specifically, the USFRA Food Dialogues events are designed to bring hot agricultural topics to the forefront and invite a range of differing opinions.
