Apply Now To Attend Iowa Ag Youth Institute

Annual Iowa Agricultural Youth Institute will be held June 13-16, 2011 at ISU in Ames. High school students interested in agriculture are encouraged to attend, learn about important issues and develop leadership skills. Registration deadline is April 25.

Applications are now available for the 31st annual Iowa Agricultural Youth Institute. This year the four day event for students interested in learning more about agriculture will be held June 13-16 at Ames. Registration deadline is April 25. High school sophomores, juniors and seniors are eligible to attend the event held on the Iowa State University campus.

Jeff Ward, executive director of the Iowa Agricultural Development Authority, the agency that organizes and conducts the institute, says "this is more than a conference. The institute educates and enlightens Iowa high school students on the importance of agriculture to all Iowans, and the nation. Students will learn about the extensive opportunities in the agricultural industry, discuss important issues facing agriculture and they will develop vital leadership skills."

Learn about team building, leadership skills, debate current issues

Highlights of this year's institute include two topics: "What is the economic impact of the addition of E15?" and ""Does the consolidation of rural schools lead to the greatest academic success for America's youth?" Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a team building course, debate issues at the State Capitol in Des Moines, participate in a round table discussion with Iowa commodity organization representatives, and enjoy a conference banquet and dance.

The Iowa Agricultural Youth Institute is sponsored by the Iowa Agricultural Development Authority in partnership with many Iowa agribusinesses and commodity organizations, including Wallaces Farmer magazine.
