Sheep are such a "green" animal. Sheep have a small carbon footprint, easy for everyone to handle, and produce both wool, meat, and milk. The milk is rich in butterfat and makes wonderful cheese.
The Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival is held at the Jefferson Fair Park in Jefferson, Wisconsin Sept. 11-13, and all three products from sheep will be represented.
Wool, a very versatile fiber is featured in the three days of the Wonders of Wool Fiber Arts classes, in the Make it with Wool Competition on Saturday, the Lead class Saturday night, the hooked rug exhibits, fleece show & sale, and in the Country Store where over 150 spaces are filled with yarns, wool products, wool gifts, sheep cheese, and much more.
Sheep are featured in the sheep shows, sheep production classes, youth events, lambs on parade, shearing demonstrations, and in the hall of breeds.
In addition, there are three full days to watch the stock dogs, mainly Border collies run thru their paces in the "Crook & Whistle" Stock Dog Trial, instinct tests, and Border collie demonstrations.
