Ag Groups Help With Habitat for Humanity House

Ag Groups Help With Habitat for Humanity House
Another Indianapolis family will benefit from house built during state fair.

Building a Habitat for Humanity House form the ground up during the state fair is becoming a tradition. It's also a tradition that Indiana ag groups and their staffs volunteer to do some of the work. In fact, this year the Habitat for Humanity House is called the "Ag House."

Many Indiana companies send volunteers to work on the home. It takes shape during the 17 days of the fair.  In 2012, then Lt. Governor Becky Skillman dedicated the house project on the first day of the fair.

House Build: Ag partners join together to build a house through Habitat for Humanity on site during the Indiana State Fair.

Many of the ag groups that cooperate to build the house also belong to Indiana's Family of Farmers. IFoF is making the Habitat for Humanity house one of the sites for picking up a recipe card in recipe hunt contest.

For the contest, anyone who collects all 10 cards will show the cards at the IFoF booth in the DuPont food pavilion. They will receive a prize, be entered in a daily drawing for popcorn, and be entered in a grand prize drawing for a chest freezer. Each person that completes the 10-stop recipe trail also earns one pound of food for the hungry in Indiana. IFoF will donate the food, working with a number of food banks around the state.

Through cooperation with Feeding Indiana's Hungry, food banks receiving a share of the food include: Food Bank of northwest Indiana, Gary; Food Bank of northern Indiana, South Bend; Food Finders Food Bank, Inc., Lafayette; Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana, Ft. Wayne; Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Indiana, Muncie; Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, Indianapolis; Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank;  Hoosier Hills Food Bank, Bloomington; Tri-State Food Bank, Inc., Evansville; Dare to Care Food Bank, Louisville, Ky.; and the Freestore Foodbank in Cincinnati, Ohio.

In addition, IFoF will support the Habitat for Humanity House building project at the state fair by donating a freezer and food donations to the new homeowners.
