29th Annual Rural Legislative Forum in Mankato

29th Annual Rural Legislative Forum in Mankato

State policy makers will take audience questions after dinner.

On Thursday, December 1, in Heritage Hall at the South Central College Conference Center in North Mankato, the 29th Annual Rural Legislative Forum will be held.

The event starts with registration at 3:30 PM, includes a dinner and will conclude by 8:00 PM.

The theme of the 2011 Rural Legislative Forum is "United Agriculture ……  Working Together To Provide Food, Fiber, and Fuel." Since we live in an era in which the agriculture and food industry is constantly being challenged by high-profile issues related to food, fiber, and fuel production, the forum will attempt to look at how we move forward in efforts related to these sensitive issues affecting the agriculture and food industry.

The keynote speaker will be Wally Tyner, agricultural economist at Purdue University. The response panel will include Kevin Paap, president of Minnesota Farm Bureau; Ken Rossow, vice president of Nicollet County Bank; and Shannen Bornsen, of Seneca Foods Corporation. Kent Thiesse, Vice President of MinnStar Bank, will moderate the panel discussion.

The highlight of the evening session will be a State Legislative Panel from 6:45-8:00 p.m. State Senators and Representatives from South Central Minnesota have been invited to address audience questions related to the theme for the Legislative Forum, and other key issues for the 2011 State Legislative Session. Mike Liepold, University of Minnesota Extension Educator, will moderate the legislative panel discussion.

Registration cost for the Forum is $10.00 per person, which includes a pork chop dinner prepared by the Nicollet County Pork Producers, and all printed materials. Advance registration is requested prior to December 1. To register, or for more information about the forum, contact the Blue Earth County Extension Office by phone at (507) 304-4325, or by e-mail at:
