More than 900 head will "moove" to Wisconsin's largest junior dairy show at the Wisconsin State Fair this August. Tying in to the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board's June Dairy Month promotion, Ted Halbach, University of Wisconsin-Madison extension dairy youth specialist, has announced "Get Moooving! Wisconsin is America's Dairyland" as the 2008 Wisconsin State Fair junior dairy show theme.
Exhibitors ages 12 to 19 will use the theme as the focus of programs that will promote Wisconsin's agriculture and dairy products, county 4-H chapters, and quality livestock.
"Healthy competition at the state and national level always fuels the youth to do their best work, as well as instilling lifelong lessons of responsibility, animal care, husbandry, teamwork, and in public communication," says Halbach. The youth also compete in showmanship, production awards, herdsmanship, and educational displays.
Last year more than 750 young people from 46 counties exhibited 900 head of dairy cattle at the Wisconsin State Fair. Families, exhibitors, and community members are invited to see the work of our state's dairy youth July 31 through Aug. 3 at West Allis.
