The Arkansas Soybean Association is pleased to announce the continuation of the Race for 100 Bushels per Acre Soybean Yield Contest and the second year of the  Go for the Green ($$$$) Soybean Yield Challenge. These contests are open to all soybean producers in Arkansas and the entry deadline is August 1.

The Race for 100 will recognize the first producer or producers to achieve or exceed the 100 bushel milestone with a $50,000 cash prize. In the event that more than one producer hit the 100 bushel mark, the prize will be divided between the producers.

The Go for the Green ($$$$) Challenge will recognize the top producers in the following divisions: early season soybeans, full season soybeans, and double crop. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top four producers in each category with prizes beginning at $1,500 and top prizes of up to $10,000. The 2011 contest awarded $65,000 in prize money to producers from Trumann, Wynne, Lake City, Helena, Atkins, Eudora, Gregory, and Poplar Grove.

Crop production information is being compiled by the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture as a resource for Arkansas producers on all those who enter the contests.

According to Jeremy Ross, Extension agronomist for soybeans, “these contests and the production information gleaned from the producers show the continued potential of soybean production in Arkansas.”

The contests are administered by the Arkansas Soybean Association with funding provided by the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board using soybean checkoff funds. Crop management assistance is provided by the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Extension personnel and many of our state certified crop consultants.

The field must have been planted to soybeans in at least one of the last three production years prior to 2012 and the contestant must have paid the appropriate checkoff assessments on the soybeans.
