SOYBEAN VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Farmers who participate in Penn State’s Soybean On-Farm Network get firsthand replicated research data, in-field testing of ag products, yield comparisons, and in some trials, fields are scouted for pests and pathogens.

Soybean on-farm testing provides farmers with locally specific results on best management practices to help improve production and profitability.

Penn State Extension has a well-established network of growers who generously donate their land and labor to help establish on-farm research plots. In turn, participating farms get firsthand replicated research data, in-field testing of agricultural products, yield comparisons, and in some trials, fields are scouted on a regular basis for pests and pathogens.

Over the past decade, the projects and reach have grown significantly, and Penn State Extension is looking to increase the number of new participants.

For 2021, the Penn State Soybean On-Farm Network is working on the following studies:

  • slug monitoring

  • no-till deep ripping to reduce compaction

  • cover crop incorporation to improve nitrogen sequestration

  • good inoculation practices

  • Ilevo seed treatment for management of soybean sudden death syndrome

  • microbial interactions with the microbiome

If you are interested in conducting 2021 trials, fill out the online form. If you have any questions, reach out to your local Extension educator.
