Corn planting advanced 18%, climbing to 94% planted as of May 29 from 86% May 22, according to USDA's released its weekly Crop Progress released today.

The nation's corn crop is 78% emerged, compared to 60% last week and 81% last year. The five-year emergence average is 75%.

Almost three-quarters of the nation's corn crop, 74% is rated good or excellent, 23% is rated fair and 3% is rated poor.

Soybeans were 73% planted, compared to 56% last week and 68% last year. The five-year average is 66%.

Soybeans are 45% emerged, compared to 22% last week and the five-year average of 40%.

Spring wheat is 88% emerged and 71% is in good to excellent condition. Last week, 78% of the crop was emerged. The five-year average is 66%. A quarter of the crop is rated in fair condition and 4% poor or very poor.

The winter wheat crop is 84% headed, compared to 75% last week and 82% last year. The five-year average is 76%. The majority of the crop is in fair to excellent condition, with 44% of the crop in good or excellent condition and 36% in fair condition. Less than a quarter, 20% of the crop is in poor or very poor condition.

The sorghum crop is 44% planted, compared to 37% last week and 42% last year.
