Soybeans were the top crop in North Dakota in 2016 in terms of the number of harvested acres and the value of production, according to the North Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service.

Approximately 6.6 million acres were harvested, and the value was pegged at $2.2 billion.

Only about half as many acres of corn were harvested as soybeans, but they were valued at $1.6 billion.

More acres of wheat were harvested in North Dakota than any other crop in 2016, and the value of the production was $1.5 billion.

Hay was the fifth-ranked crop as far as the value of production, and fourth in harvested acres.

North Dakota has many minor market crops. The value of the top nine totaled more than $1.17 billion in 2016.

The value of the 2016 sugarbeet crop was not available at the time the North Dakota report was compiled. In the last few years, sugarbeets were in the top five or seven crops in terms of value.
